About CSS Competitive Examination 2026

The CSS Competitive Examination is conducted annually by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) to recruit officers in BS-17 for various occupational groups and services of the Federal Government. Candidates must first qualify the MCQ Based Preliminary Test (MPT) to become eligible for the CSS written examination.

Important Dates

Eligibility Criteria

• Minimum Second Division or Grade “C” in Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
• Age: 21 to 30 years (with relaxation for certain categories as per FPSC rules).
• Must be a citizen of Pakistan or a permanent resident of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

MCQ Based Preliminary Test (MPT) – Overview

The MPT is a qualifying test consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering:

• Islamic Studies / Ethics (for Non-Muslims)
• English
• General Abilities (Mathematics, Analytical Reasoning, Everyday Science)
• General Knowledge (Pakistan Affairs, Current Affairs)

Qualifying the MPT is mandatory to appear in the CSS written examination.
